The 'threshold' knob is used to set the audio threshold heard when the unit is in the non-motion pinpoint mode.

I don't know what your dealer told you.......

I know what it's for,I don't know how to set it. Dealer told me to push pinpoint button in,then turn threshhold knob until you can barely hear a hum. Manual says turn knob until you get a steady hum. This is what's confusing me.

its one and the same the fainter the threshold the more depth(breaking point of the signal) you should get
when you get the hum
slowly turn it down till its faint
me i like it a little "hot" on the high side

If you set the threshold at a low hum, you'll notice the difference much better when you are over a target than if you set it higher. Higher gives the signal no where to go. However, for the greatest depth, set the threshold as high as possible and pinpoint by just Xing the target in disc. mode. The difference in depth with the threshold set to max is significant. Try it in an air test, and you'll see.

With good phones you can turn it low enough that the threshold becomes unsteady yet is still aubdible. Go with what the manual says and increase it enough that it steadies out a bit otherwise you may not be able to distinguish the softer hits from variances in the threshold tone.
