Been exploring new sites around my office for lunch hunts. Plenty of community parks with vast wooded areas that were once farmsteads. Made 2 trips into this one site, first hike located the barn foundation, but 20 ticks found me. None got hold, but spent more time looking for them on my jeans than detecting, but found some cool relics. So went back hoping to find foundation of home, found it, but the ticks were even worse, 25 ticks on my clothes, hightailed it out and vowed never to hit these woods again, like a horror movie. Anyway, here is the handful I dug between ticks.

Then hit my favorite lunch hunt site, that after dozens of trips still is producing some nice finds. This was dug on the edge of the cellar hole (back of property, front of property is 1900's) that I had a avoided due to so much iron in the past.

Not sure about the stones or the MH next to Sterling.

Good luck out there!

Man I hate ticks! Cool looking ring, nice digs!

Cool finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Lots of folks swear by any insect repellent with deet in it. I don't know. I am usually in a full wetsuit.

Nice ring. Congrats

No leeches!? Lol...every time I think leech, Humphrey Bogart comes to mind, from the African Queen. When do you think you'll be in the water this year? I (we) really enjoy your underwater adventures..Ddf

Either end of April or beginning of May. Just depends on how fast the water warms up. No leaches, they don't like wet suits. I aim to have some great adventures this year. Hopefully some nice finds will come my way also.

Very nice looking vintage ring. As far as the ticks go, pour a small portion of Tea Tree Oil in a spray bottle. Fill the rest with water, and spray it on your cuffs, pants, and neck area. It will not hurt your skin, as its all natural. It has a little scent to it, but its not a bad smell. Havent had a tick on me in years. You can pick up Tea Tree Oil at the health food stores, or thru Young living, Essential Oils.

YES, YES, YES! We've been using it for years and gave the dog a little spray on the legs and underbelly before going out and not one tick. Everybody around us had ticks on their dogs, and tried everything and products really had some bad side effects.
But Tea Tree is all natural and not a synthetic chemical so most folks don't believe it works. Same as Oil Of Oregano kills 98% of virus on contact so it's a good thing to use on a bite site.

Sawyer says it works, BUT: The synthetic version of pyrethrum (a natural insecticide derived from the chrysanthemum flower), Permethrin is non-toxic and registered for use by the U.S. EPA.

Beautiful sterling ring and horse tack, great patina on the piece.

Had to do a doxycycline regimen because I caught Lyme while hunting last year. Never want to deal with that again.

Wife and I took a cruise last year to come back to a sick toddler that we had to take to the hospital. I stayed with her for the week and never left the hospital room (equestrian area) and when I got home I found a tick swollen on my ankle. I never had any fear of the woods or little critters till after that and after the Doxycycline. Stay safe out there! If I was invited to hunt with you I’d show up in a hazmat suit now.

Trezurehunter, I have some tea tree oil and I'm wondering just how much of the tea tree oil and how much of the water. Do you also put any other oils in with it as I've seen many formulas that call for veggy oil too.

I saw a video once and the guy mixed 30-40 drops of oil into I think a 12oz bottle of rubbing alcohol. Just spray it on your clothes at the key areas and on your hat. He finger-rubbed a broken circle around a tick on a paper plate and the tick walked through the dry spot away from the oil every time. It wouldnt get very close to the oil. It was pretty cool.

The alcohol sounds interesting as it'll thin it out and evaporate quickly once sprayed. Most alcohols aren't pure over the counter and caution needs to be exercised as it is very flammable. Maybe a more dilute mixture with water is in order.

edit to add- I guess nobody here has even heard of neem oil. I bought some from Lowes last year for garden plants.

I also use cedarcide which is natural and non-toxic on my skin to repel mosquitos and ticks. Sawyer is great for treating clothes because it lasts 42 days. I wear the same outfit every time I go out. I bought some cool Marvin the Martian socks to style it up.
