Hey Everyone,

Hope things are going well. Life got busy and I haven't been going to sales much. However, I stopped by one today in a wealthy neighborhood.

First is this Tiffany Carriage Clock
- I found others like it and it looks like it's from the 191?s. However, I can't find one with a similar face.
- The numbers looks like they have that radioactive paint on them. I wonder if it was repainted?
- The clock has some condition issues, but works.
- Let me know what you think? Is that radio active paint, something I need to worry about? Online comments seem mixed. IMG_20190511_100833.webp

Here is a Chelsea Clock Company of Boston
- this looks like a old clock that was but into an modern mantle case
- prices on these seems all over the place
- clock works....any idea on value?

Finally, here is a WW1 era French compass. It's missing a couple pieces, but it's in decent shape. Father of person having the sale was a cartographer. He had some old cartography tools, but the prices were more than I was willing to pay. I probably should have bought them.

The dial from that era Would’ve been painted with radium. But looking at yours it looks like it might’ve been repainted as it hasn’t patina’d like you would’ve expected. Love the Compass very cool.

Thanks Jim. I learned the compass is also a clinometer which is used to measure height.

90% of the Tiffany clocks have roman numerals. This one definitely looks repainted. How can you tell if face is porcelain or paper without taking it apart?

The Chelsea clock does have a second wind hole. So must not have a chime.

Those are some great finds to display, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I thought the Tiffany clock was the good one, but turns out the Chelsea Clock is the real prize. Seems all Chelsea clocks have value, including the ones today. Definitely something to keep an eye our for.

Here are some details:
- Chelsea Clock was founded in 1880 and focused on maritime clocks
- Based on the serial number on the back of the case, you can date your clock here
- I didn't think mine was that old, but it dates from 1925-1929 (There is an 89 on the back of the case, I think it was refurbished and the wood stand added in 1989)
- For $35, Chelsea Clock will tell you exactly when the clock was made, who they sold it to, and it's maintenance history
- Seems they sell on eBay from about $300 - $1400

I've bought a handful of 8-day clocks of the years and this one is by far the most accurate. It's amazing.

Anyway, something else to keep an eye out for.

good luck,
bill
