Just a thought, but if you call (e-mail pics) to Tiffany, they may be able to identify it and tell you if they monogrammed it. The HGC looks like a personal monogram to me. This may help to give you an age. Hope it helps.

Very nice. I wonder if the other side piece is in the same area. Last spring I found half of a purse top like that and two weeks later found the second half about twenty five feet down the hill from it. Couldnt believe it.

What you have found is a monogrammed hair comb top from a tiffany dresser set. The comb was made of celluloid or tortoise shell and the small nails you see on either ends held it in the silver case. Just find a plastic comb with tortoise shell decoration and fit the comb in, presto a restored original from the early 1900's. The only difference here is the nails go in the end rather than the side...
