Depending on the amount of black sand it will do fine. High concentrations of the black sand will affect all VLF detectors. At least the Tiger has a saltwater mode.

If you are not diving underwater with the machine, then I would look for something else. It can be a little weak in the salt and discrimination and depth departments. They are nice for a reasonably priced underwater detector. If you worry about salt or mineralization, then a Minelab Sovereign is a good choice. Just be careful not to drop it in the water. Most new detectors are Waterprof up to the control box. (the control box shold not get wet at all)

Thanks for your opinions.

I was thinking of the TS or Sovereign or maybe the Detector Pro Wader. I've heard some good and bad (quality control) things about the wader. I have a few months to decide, so I'm still doing the research.

we used ours on the jersey beaches didnt have a problem bro
also sent u a pm about a hunt we have planned if your interested

The TS is a great detector for fresh water but it lacks depth in salt sand. id go with a multi freq detector like the Excal or Sovereign..iv got both and they work great on salt sand.
