The best bet would be to pick up one of the many field guides to arrowheads and stone tools. I've got a number of them around and usually have others in the truck. The one I can see on the shelf from where I'm sitting is Arrowheads and Stone Artifacts by CG Yeager. Don't know if it's still in print ... I've had it around at least 20-25 years. But a websearch will turn up a dozen or two field guides still in print most likely.

Here is a quick example that I found useful early on. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gensoup/bc/indians.html It's a generic time line with descriptions regarding the Paleo through the Historic Native Americans in Kentucky. It might change slightly depending on what area of the country you are situated. The only culture not covered by this map of Kentucky is the Hopewell Culture which was a derivative of the Adena Culture.
