Hi all, dug this near a home built in SW Ohio prior to 1828 that burned down in 1944. With the catch on one end and bar on the other - thought it could be a sash buckle. However, it is small & thin so wouldn't hold up long. Googled, but didn't find anything close. What looks like dirt on the first photo is gold color when held at an angle to light with a very decorative pattern. Help w/ ID and age is appreciated.

Wow, that sucker is tiny. Took me a minute to realize how small. While it could still be a belt/dress/sash buckle, I'm thinking choker. Velvet ribbon chokers were popular in the late 19th C.

DCMatt, as always thanks for the tip.:occasion14: I spent a fair amount of time looking at pictures - but didn't consider a choker. Will definitely look into that and mark as solved if applicable.

DCMatt, do you think what I found is half of a choker buckle? While the shape isn't the same as below the general concept of one side hooking into the other. Thoughts?
