I prospect for gold with a Gold Bug Pro and would like to do some relic hunting this winter around some of the old mining camps in my area. I live in western siskiyou county Ca, which is very rich in gold rush era camps and homesteads, most of which have been burned over by wild fire or by the pissfirs. Many local sites were only lived in for a handful of years while the rush was on and others were inhabited from the 1850's thru the 1930's and/ or to the present. I would appreciate any tips from people experienced in relic hunting mining areas. Were to start, determining good sites, dealing with all the iron and what people find frequently. Any tips from you Pro's out there would be great.
Thank you,
