TO THOSE BORN 1930 - 1979

i remember when i would help my dad working on the roadmaster buicks. you could dang near dismantle the whole car with 9/16,1/2 and 5/8 inch wrenches. you didnt see many ratchets and sockets. you havent lived till you go through 24 inches of snow in a 56 roadmaster haha fishtailin......and pbr or hamms.

As a kid we used to lay in the back window of the car and sleep there in the warm sunlight. We used to walk to the movies and the sat early show was .50 cents. Every can of soda need a can opener to drink it. No pull tabs to be seen anywhere. I was about 9 years old and could get cigarettes for my mom at the drug store! My dad would let us drink beer [one can only] when I was about 11 years old. I did not even see a computer until I was 26 in the year 1986.

Goldie, You just brought back another memory with the mention of your 56 Roadmaster. In late 58 or 59, I had a 1948
Roadmaster that I bought from a private individual. The back window had been shot out of it when I looked at it but
he had his insurance replace it and I got it for $50.oo. At that tima most people I knew didn't have insurance. But, anyway, I got it and it was a pretty good running car for quite a while. It weighed 4900 and some pounds with coil springs at all four wheels and rear heaters under the back seat. I could be out in below zero weather, and the people in the back
seat would be toasty warm. That was the only car that I ever had with the back seat heater. It had 2 long sets of hoses running under the car from the radiator to the back heaters. One day it sprung a leak and lost all the water. After
I fixed it, I started puting the water and inti-freeze in it and I thought it was never going to get full.LOL. It took so
much more that mostcars did because of the extra heaters. And it had the old Straight 8 motor block.About 6 or 8 months
after i got it the rear leaf springs went bad. Then anytime i'd hit a bad bump, the rear would bounce up and down for the next 500 yards or so. It would really look funny when it would bounce like that. LOL Thanks for sharing some of your
past. It is good reading.

Hello, BIG61AL, There are lots of good memories from back in our younger days. It's fun to think of them once in a while. And it's kinda funny , how sometimes someone will say something and it will bring back an old memory of something from way back. It is good to reflect, sometimes. Thanks for sharing some old memories.

Have a good day,

Ray
