Well the water is still high. I’m hunting in 3 feet of water and it’s cold still. I found nothing but brokes until I saw this. Then I was smiling but nothing else after. Looks to be made from Fort Payne chert by the blue in it. But as all my other finds it dried black by the time I got home. The picture was right after I pulled it. Water needs to drop another 2 feet before I can find anything else in that creek.

Nice, looks like ft Payne chert. I found some artifacts in N. Alabama many years ago made of it, wish I could find some more of it here.

No they are their own culture. Late Archaic to Early Woodland period. Most of their points and knifes I find are thicker than others and display a stack on one side. That’s how I tell them apart from normal cultures. No idea why they leave the stack. Just not enough study on them imo

I find it, it’s a high grade chert and most collectors I know call it Altoona Blue after a lake I guess they find it at normally. I don’t look there at that lake but probably carried in to my area. We also have a type called Mustard Chert that looks like FP but has stripes throughout it.

I have a few from N. Alabama with stripes through it, never knew what the material was called.

Not so sure now that I cleaned it up some might be R and V chert has some red in it.

No I went and looked the texture of it is like a sugar quartz so probably some kind of quartzite. With the red in it could be been heat treated. The hinge fractures are from creek tumble which I do find sometimes on creek artifacts. Thanks for the response it’s definitely not R and V. Not sure exactly on the type of material but it’s something I don’t find often
