Samantha a total of $80.00.

How much did Sabrina and Samantha have at the beginning of their exchange?

y = sab starting money, x = sam starting money

y + x = 80 bucks

given next line 2x = y-x, or 3x = y
3x + x = 80 or 4x = 80

so, x =20 and y +x(20) = 80, so y = 60

45, 46, or 47

Pulling down your pants will not help me determine. The normal human has 46 chromosomes. 22 normal and then an x or y. If have short stature and female traits then you could have sex chromosomes XO, Turner's syndrome, . Meaning you got the X from your mother and no chromosome from your father; hence 45 chromosomes. If you are tall, with large ears, and small testicles then you might have Klinefelter's Syndrome, in you which you got an extra X chromosome and are XXY, then you would have 47. Lastly, if you have a specific set of feature's it is possible you could have Down's syndrome in which you would have three copies of chromosome 21, trisomy 21; which would also leave you with 47 chromosomes. If you are extremely violent, with low IQ, and in prison then you could be XYY, where you got the extra Y from your mother, leaving you with 47 chromosomes.

There are other ways to get to 47 but they are fatal prior to adult age...I'm assuming you are an adult but it is hard to tell from you last post. ;)

Hope this is helpful!

"How much did Sabrina and Samantha have at the beginning of their exchange?"

$80.00 No one lost anything. So, after all the exchanges, if Samantha had $80 and Sabrina had $0.00 then the answer is $80.00 betwixt them.

Since you did not ask how much each had, but rather what Sabrina AND Samantha had, I can only assume that you mean the total which they possessed.

Sorry - no winner today! CORRECT ANSWER: Sabrina had $50 and Samantha had $30.

This can be solved by setting up two simultaneous equations, but it's easier just to work backwards...

  • At each step, the person who is receiving the money gets the amount that they were already holding. In other words, they double their money. Therefore, just before the last exchange, Samantha must have had $40 and was given another $40 to get to her total of $80.

  • Just before the second exchange, Sabrina must have had half of her $40. Therefore, Sabrina had $20 and Samantha had $60.

  • After the first exchange Samantha doubled her money, so she must have had $30 before the exchange, leaving Sabrina with $50 at the start.

Okay, you tripped me up with the wording. My equations were wrong. Well done.
