With Thanksgiving this week and my plans taking me out of town my good pal Bill D and I decided to get a half day of digging in, despite the cold and rainy weather. We went to a site that we found last year but to a new field and Bill started off right away digging buttons. It was 0-9 within 45 minutes and I was not leading. Finally I struck with a button, then another and another - all the while Bill was the button digging machine. We both knew that one of us would strike with a good coin before the day was over and boy was I glad to be the one to get it. (Bill will get his in I am sure). This 1600's Charles II Bolivian cob made my day and warmed my otherwise cold body up.

I also managed to dig some nice odds and ends including another 1600's marked spoon dish. Shoe buckle parts and bullets along with other misc. lead and brass rounded the day out. I ended with about 15 buttons as well (Bill still killed me on these).

I would be happy with any of that right now. The coin is just an incredible find.

That was a fun time this morning Dan. Glad we had a small window of opportunity to get out and swing a bit. We had suspected this particular field, due to its location, would likely contain some relics. And we we were right. You definitely recovered a lot more of an assortment than me. My machine was apparently stuck in button mode and just wouldn't stop. I was also glad to see you pull that latten spoon bowl out as that confirmed 17th century occupation as does your silver. I think the mark on it might be like the one in the middle of the top row in the pic below, but its not an exact match. By the way, you may remember me mentioning near the end of the hunt that I would trade all of my buttons for a piece of silver, and then you go and dig one. Wanna make a little swap??

Well done guys!! Looking forward to more after the holiday. Stay safe and happy travels.

Well done. What a way to finish the day with a silver tone. Heck with the rain. Great coin...

Fantastic find there Dan, I bet that Bill won't be too far behind you with an awesome silver as well. Good luck and have a great holiday.

Way to go Dan!! That cob has more detail than most that are found so it may not have been in circulation long....relatively speaking. Did you take any video?

Great find congrats

Hey Dan that coin was probably bent for a reason. If I recall correctly they were used as love tokens.

I initially thought perhaps a love fold. That being said, it actually appears to be an attempt at being cut.

Congrats! Nothing like shinning silver to end a season, and all your other goodies!

Good day Dan, at least you guys are getting out. Congrats on the early silver!

nice well worth it!

Early buttons and 1600s silver - now that's what I would call a fine day. Congrats on your finds!

Thanks guys and gals. Sorry I was away and out of touch from the web (a good thing). Hope to post many more.
