Todays CW relic hunt...primo carved bullet

Greg and I hunted for 7 hours today at our local hard hit CW site. It was miserably hot but we hunted hard and it begrudgingly gave up some lead. I got 5 bullets of a nice mix, and poor Greg found only one lone bullet. But what a bullet it was...the best carved minie I have ever seen pulled from this site. Looks to be a chess pawn. Awesome find Greg!

Bill, here is a close example that looks a lot like Greg's soldier's art find as pictured in "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of the Civil War" by Stanley Phillips. Few bullets have this super detail. I hope Greg knows how rare it is to dig a real carved piece of true soldier's art. It was last July since I found a chess piece while hunting with Dman and Dixiedigger in Southern Tennessee. In this area, you get a real good one about every 200 bullets or so (unless you are Dman who is lucky). HH, Quindy..

That is truly a terrific piece of Earthwork Art! You can find lots of carved up bullets but rarely does one that nice surface. That piece right there is worth a whole slew of regular bullets in my opinion. Congrats to you and he both!!

Thanks Sentinel! and thanks for posting the pics Quindy. The site where he found it , I have personally pulled around 1,000 bullets from...of those, probabely around 30 were carved. But most of them were just simple whittled on...none anywhere near this nice....he definitely scored a good one there. I tried to trade him the 5 bullets I found for it, but he would have none of that, can't quite understand that
