Today's finds (gold)

I've been hunting around this late 1700s house for the past week and found some awesome recoveries today. Harmonica reed. Musket ball. Marbles. 2 buttons. And last but not least a gold chain I'm assuming possible pocket watch chain. It has some ornate design on it as well. All in all pretty awesome day.

Wow that's a nice chain this is what bits all about building are treasure a few pieces at a time nice job

Ehhhh ? ? ?
If that is gold... um... wow...
IF that is gold...
That is a dropped piece of something "beyond" what you are thinking... Craftsmanship suggests this anyway.

Can you PLEASE take more pics and post them.
Take detailed close ups... front and backs... link connections etc.

PS> what makes you think gold ? Did you test ? and if so what Karat is it ?

PSS> GO BACK TO THIS SPOT ASAP !

From the pic it looks to dark to be gold, gold plated maybe ?

Gold, the higher the karat the shinier it gets. It usually comes out of the ground or water looking very clean, just like silver. (sometimes) Sometimes the gold I have found is a little dark (10 K) gold filled or gold plated is the darkest.

If that is gold (might be) I'm talking banner.
Did you look at it with a loop? Checking for makers marks or karat weight is always fun!

I'm thinking gold plated unfortunately you can see in the first picture the link is exposed and the plating peeled off. I still love it it's a pretty cool find. I plan on definitely hammering the spot again to see if anything else comes up.

Any markings ?

Nope nothing just the ornate design up and down the chain

It's still a cool find....never dismiss a find cause it doesn't have a marking... Gold markings are the general rule but you can find gold items that have no stamps or markings or marks that are almost impossible to make out

Ps......don't let guys like Aarc dampen your spirit!!!!

Slow your horses buddy, AARC didnt dampen anything, he gave a realistic perspective/opinion on the item in question. Going forward, it is best to say only good things or nothing at all about other members here, this is not the place for personal attacks.

Have fun and happy hunting!

Do you have a picture that offers better contrast between the chain and a background?

What does it weigh? If gold I'm pretty sure a chain that size would have some weight to it. Either way, cool find.
