Todays Hunt 12 - 7 - 2020

Went out for a few hours to shake off the cabin fever found a few broken slate and basalt points need some rain to uncover a few . I found a small Drill worked down to a nub then a nice Delta Side Notched hiding in plain sight .

I found that slate knife a couple of weeks ago and let it rest where found . To see if I was being followed lol and picked it up this time . I've been walking that same field for over forty years and still finding a few .

No landowner in his right mind would WANT a severe, protracted drought, but if you want to find artifacts exposed on the surface, that's your ticket. We had one back around '92 and all kinds of stuff was exposed by the soil around them drying out and blowing away. And in parts of big fields I never found much of anything on afterward.

The cost of sacrificing a few will far outweigh being able to recover the better ones that would otherwise stay buried forever possibly. Dennis may not have permission to do anything like that anyway. I said it in jest.

I've thought about using a rototiller or at least a rake lol . There's parts of that camp that's covered in pine needles and blackberry's and small pine trees and oaks . It's all subdivided now into small 2 1/2 ac parcels most have homes built with Tilly's Hill and the Elders Camp the last vacant parcels . This was a large year round camp or camps of maybe a hundred acres or more . The surrounding area has numerous camps that I have never walked because of posted private property . The Apple Hill camp that I have posted a lot of finds from is across the river canyon on the south side . Rained last night I can't help thinking about what might be waiting to be rescued . Terry I'm out there so often the locals think I own it lol .
