Minelab X-Terra 50, Minelab Musketeer Advantage, Tesoro Vaquero, Minelab Sovereign GT
I took the Sovereign out for a short hunt today and detected for about 4 hours at a local park that has yielded lots of wheat pennies, but only two silver coins.
I just ignored the loud signals and concentrated on the soft low signals and made a few good finds including 16 wheat pennies dating from 1917 up to 1956, a 1942 quarter ( been awhile since I found one of these ), and a trade token of some kind that I need to research.
On one side of the token is the following: J.L. KELLER
DRUGGIST
STATIONER
UNIVERSITY OF VA.
GOOD FOR 5
GLASS SODA WATER
If anyone has a book on tokens, perhaps this is in it and any help is much appreciated.
Many of the wheat pennies were in the same hole as nails and small bits if wire, but the Sovereign gave a good enough signal to dig. One hole had a nail about 5 inches long and still the Sovereign made a good ID reading on the wheat penny... wonder how many times this was missed?
I believe this is the first hunt where I have found more wheat pennies than memorials.
Thanks for looking,
Felix

Nice collection of wheat pennies and a silver!

I love to find wheat pennies cause where there are wheats....there is silver!

Hey Mike ...

The front of the token is blank except for some small markings around the edge.
Either it has corroded off or it never had any markings on it.

So far, I have found 54 wheat pennies, two silver coins, two indian head cents, a 1905 V nickel, and a 1925 Buffalo nickel.
It is still giving up targets if you have the patience to slow down and check each signal.
Many of the coins I have found have been laying close to nails and other bits of iron which may explain why they are still there.
