Once again we headed off in bright sunshine, and once again the heavens opened treating us to bursts of thunder and torrential rain! At this rate I may see if Himself can weld an umbrella to my Deus elbow cuff 😬 xx

But to todays finds… well we explored different areas of the massive field today, and think we have found a new active corner, himself dug this first find…. It’s 4.5 inches long and 1 inch at its widest and weighs 250g… to me it looks like the bottom of a cross 🤔… then a tiny button the back is 2 bent arms and trapped between is the cloth 😳…! Then another tiny piece, a buckle, strap end and concave bit, complete crotal bell, 2 pot mends and a handle (?) a patterned piece, 3 musket balls, buttons, 5 Jettons… and I got 4 Romans, 3 are still to damp to clean, but 1 you can just make out the headband a bit of the reverse. The field is covered in bits of pottery so I picked up these 3 pretty bits!

The butterflies were out today but were shy so couldn’t get a great pic! xx

I lost count at around 40 recoveries. not that count matters while I count...
On a rain day even.

One of your rain day pictures hints a bit on how umbrella's might have been inspired/ invented. (Portable ones though...)

Ive been looking at this piece nd trying to work out what is on it.. 😳 if i turn it the other way… it looks like this .. 🤔… ?? View attachment 2094114

Looked at that a while earlier.
A busy piece!
Combined with a busy imagination it got busier...

Don't want to get it dirty of finger /skin oil on it ect.. But. A gentle press into silly putty (not very sticky clay) or even ink (no , don't do it!) like using a woodcut or printing plate could give a different perspective.

I've extracted a floral motif out of it.
A pheasant. (Not peasant).
A gargoyle.
That's when I quit looking at it. L.o.l...

The darkened skies still didn't put a damper on the results, from what I can see.
Not sure what the first item is all about-broken handle/lever of sorts?
The item on the left (photo #7) is it wedged shape or flat? Nice patina to it and the oval ring above it.
Good on ya for getting more Romans, looks like lots of activity over centuries in this field.

Thanks Peps.. that first item is something quite special i think.. its bronze… need to get it to the FLO…

This field is amazing… Himself discovered a new activity corner so if the rain moves away we will be headed there this week to explore some more!

The item is flat.. has a “strap end” feel to it🤔 xx

Does the metal (iron) rivet go all the way through?
The bronze piece is interesting (seen it some where before-or something quite like it)

Little addition to the finds.. was going thru my scap bits this morning.. and found this… heavily crusted but gave it a rub with some lubricated tin foil … nd discovered its silver😍.. albeit very tiny (cm scale) xx
