Hello everybody!!!...I picked up this very cool(to me at least!!!)San Francisco june 2nd.1941 newspaper in pretty good condition! i have read some but not all yet.some VERY interesting stuff in this newspaper.this was 6 months before pearl harbor was attacked! which to me makes it all the more interesting.the picture of the beautiful woman is Veronica Lake(played by kim bassinger in"L.A.Confidential" or she was to look like veronica lake, gotta see the movie its great, corruption in L.A.P.D. in 40's),3 peice/section newspaper,MAP is our troop readiness, etc. and as you can see a somewhat positive(?) article quoting herman goering!!! wow how that changed!!!,so i just thought i'd share this find w/ALL the great people on TN!!! HH ALL!,TIL NEXT TIME...

Do not forget that the official American policy at the time was hands-off towards Hitler, i.e. "appeasement". We had good old Joe Kennedy in England wiring the U.S. administration at every opportunity about how great Hitler was.

You will see plenty of "Jap hunting licenses" made during the period, but not many "Nazi hunting licenses".

It took awhile for everyone to despite Nazi politics.

I am not surprised that as of early 1941, some portions of the American press are in love with fat boy Goering.
Thank's for input(ALL that has!)!!!,By no means have I forgotten about Kennedy! and all the other"Boy's Club"members! ;D,I agree with you completely !, HH ALL!!!

Very Cool find! I wonder why they would show where our base's were? :icon_scratch:
How much did you pay for it?
Thats a good question("why they would show our base's") because of all the "loose lips sinks ships" sort of thing.but as stated in another reply to post, media was in love with certain people&happenings.this paper was before U.S.A. was directly involved, two years prior the 3rd.Reich had invaded poland(1939),so now(6/2/41)maybe U.S.A. was showing a "show of force" thing due to the dictator saying(and goering re-inforcing!)no island is unconquerable! or maybe just MEDIA "blowing it" as they usually do!!!(remember when media met U.S.Navy SEALS as they hit the beach?),anyway i paid $2.52 for the paper,a new N.Y.Times cost a $1.50!!! thanks for input& HH ALL!!!

WOW! That's an awesome find! Thanks for sharing with us! My dad has a few papers he saved as a kid when the Cincinnati area flooded in 1937. I need to dig those out and take a look through them again.

Great find at a GREAT price!!!

Thank's ,i think so too! Ya you should dig those old papers up,they are(to me!)so much fun to read especially when they contain historic articles,i guess most papers have only HISTORICAL articles for the most part,so the "old ones" i like! show pics of flood headlines if you find them&you can do it under the regional section of this fourm or "my collection" part,or here"todays finds"if you find it the day you post!ha ha.Thank's for input& HH ALL!!! :icon_study:,

The Communist's and the Socialist's were hard at work here in the U.S. trying to paint a rosy picture of all the death being perpetrated in the name of those two political systems. Our goverment is still trying to shove this retoric down our throats.

And about three weeks later, Germany invaded Russia, that's when the political slant really changed. Russia became "Mother Russia", and we started to realize something truly global was happening. Love those war era newspaper, really love Veronica with her "peek-a boo" hairdoo!

Hello everybody!!!...Thanks for all the input so far ,i have been enjoying this alot as i do other newspapers i have(1860's-1960's)but here is some more tidbits of this newspaper! i hope you all enjoy!!!,Thank's&HH ALL!!! :icon_study:,
,ok enough war talk we got ENOUGH of that on our hands now, well OUR troops hand's...Support them!!!,Remember the good old days,no T.V. just sitting around radio, listening to little orphan annie?,wishing for a red ryder bb gun for christmas??,I don't!!! i'm only 50 but LOVE the 40's!!! have fun ALL!!!(I know alot of pics, sorry?)
