Found this Cascaret's Laxatives token today. Circa 1910-1920.

Button 071022.jpg

Also found this button. States "Liberty" (I think) and "Union" on the front, along with an anchor. Back indicates L&Kendrick Exra. Very small. I generally guess this is a Navy button from Civil War era, but am unable to find anything to confirm that.

Good finds. That's a nice, and scarce, button but it predates the Civil War. I've seen similar ones offered at around $150 (albeit in nicer condition) but I don't know if that's a true reflection of its rarity or just a speculative "ask" by the seller.

“L & Kendrick” will be “Leavenworth & Kendrick”, the partnership between Mark Leavenworth and his son Benjamin Franklin Leavenworth and his son-in-law Green Kendrick in Waterbury, CT between c1829-1834. Some sources give later end dates of 1837 or 1842 but the company was sold in 1837 to become Ives & Kendrick after Mark Leavenworth had left in 1835 to partner with Willard Spencer and C.S. Sperry as the “Leavenworth, Spencer & Sperry company”. It’s unlikely that the “L & Kendrick” backmark dates after that, except for the possible use of old dies for a short period.

In any case, Mark Leavenworth died in 1849 and Benjamin Franklin Leavenworth died in 1850.
