I really enjoy finding tokens, almost as much as coins.

I think it might have gotten me two :icon_thumright:

This one is listed in Erickson's WA Book as rarity 7, 9-11 known. tokencatalog.com has it as "image wanted", so if you are so inclined, please post a good, in-focus, straight-on closeup there. It is odd how tokens sometimes end up in places a long way from their origin. Probably was due to some guy getting a token in change or as part of his winnings in a card/pool game, putting it in his pocket with the intention to redeem it, but instead gets on the train and goes away. Then, with no possibility of redeeming it, it is tossed away, or put in the collection plate if he happens to go to church...

Probably so!!!!!!!!!!

I have a website for you. It is Richard's Token Database AND it just so happens that he is looking for a picture of your token. Go to this site
http://tokencatalog.com/index.php

Get in touch with him and email him a front and back picture of your token. I bet he will list your name and your find on his Token Database. It is the most extensive token database on the web as far as I know. zaxfire69

It just goes to show, you never know what you're going to find next... Nice looking token...

Thank you very much for the info. What does rarity 7 mean? I'm not familiar with the scale. Think it has any value?

It seems like everyone who puts out a catalog of trade tokens figures rarity differently. Erickson's WA Book says that rarity 7 means that (at the time he wrote the book and knowing what he knew about how many examples he had seen) there were from 9 to 11 known. His rarity scale goes from R10 (1 or 2 known) to R1 (27+ known). With several thousand WA tokens listed in his book, he undoubtedly made educated guesses as to rarity. Not all WA token collections were examined by him, and if somebody has multiples of a given token, they may not have told him they had more than one. Rarity scales are generally only guidelines. As far as value, it seems like the market for Washington tokens (with the exception of tokens that say "saloon" on them and ones from towns where there may only be one merchant's token known -- Lynden has about 20), has gotten fairly soft in the past 10 years or so. I would imagine the token might bring $20 on ePay, but you never can tell unless you try to sell it.

I contacted the gentleman but he hasn't responded.

Awesome, Richard contacted me back and used my photos and name for this token in the database.

A most awesome post from start to finish way to go!!! The token is awesome too!

Tokens are K@@L and very fun to find. They usually make my week, especially when you know where there from.

I love tokens, I have never found one from where I live but my sister did. It was a neat old token for a free cigar from a shop that existed a hundred years ago in our town.

I like those tokens too, hope it's worth about 100 bucks! ;D
Michigan's got some great digs!

Nice find.
Very nice condition.

Well, I guess my $20 estimate on ePay was too high since there were no bids.
