Hi everyone,

I am new here and have limited my posts to the bottle section so far, but I do detect and collect in several categories of things that are discussed on this forum.

I have a token that I have tried to find information on for quite a while. I posted it on a few coin and token sites and have come up with zip. I saw this token section and thought I would give it a whirl.

It is obviously a post exchange token. My first question is whether it was common practice to put an officer's name on them. Maybe Lieut. Todd was quartermaster? Don't know.

Research on the 2nd Wash. Inf. leads me to think that the period of issue was Spanish American to WWI issue.

Any info or clues on any aspect of this token genuinely appreciated.

Cunningham's Military Tokens of the United States lists this denomination plus 5¢ and 25¢ (all the same size of 24mm) in the Seattle, WA section of his book. Unfortunately, he does not give any further information as to the history of the piece. I notice in the case of several other military tokens, an individual is listed by name, so it seems logical to me that Lt. Todd was in charge of the post exchange. And, I would agree with your thought that it was from the Spanish-American war and the piece was likely used in the Philippines.

I've dug a lot of tokens, but never a military post. Real nice!

Thanks all for the nice comments, but I have to come clean. I realize now that the token section is naturally under metal detecting, but to be honest this token was not dug, it was found amongst several other coins in an old trunk. Did not want to mislead anyone, it is actually cleaner than the scan shows.

I did actually dig a military base token in my front yard, found with my Ace250. It is from Ft. Kobbe in the Panama Canal Zone. I live on my wife's family's homestead, and her uncle served there so I am sure he dropped it. Sometimes it is more fun when it is a mystery... ;D

If I can find it, I will snap a pic and post it.
