Infront of my house is a large field that was once farmed heavily back in the 1700 and 1800's. I found this today and can't quite figure out what it is. It's slightly smaller than a dime. Has design and lettering. I know most of the older buttons are usually larger. Thoughts?

Looks old, and is interesting, but it's the back not the size that makes me question if it was a button.

Definitely a "cuff size" New Hampshire Volunteer Militia button. It is listed (and shown) as button NH-6 in the button-book by Alphaeus H. Albert ("Record of American Uniform And Historical Buttons - Bicentennial Edition"). That button dates from the civl war era into the late-1800s. Unfortunately the back of your button has corroded away. If it was an iron back, your button is almost certainly from the 1870s or later.
