There's an old park here in town that the city has been working on for the past few days. They took a section of it and graded off about 8 to 12 inches in depth so they could level the area off so they can put in new play ground equipment. What makes this so great is the fact that now we can get down to the level of some of the old coins that haven't seen the sun for a 100 years or so. It hasn't hurt anything either that it has really been a wet last couple of weeks. A hunting partner and I hit the scraped area on Saturday, and the first 3 pictures are keepers that I found. My buddy found a pair of Indian head pennys, a buffalo nickel, and a 1900 Barber dime. Saturday night, it rained 3/4 of an inch, but with the luck we had had, just had to go back on Sunday. Picture 4 is what I found that day. Monday, after the city got done working in the area I went back again, and picture 5 has what I found. And then lastly, Tuesday afternoon I went back one more time and found a "new" coin. A 1944s Wheat penny.
Sorta makes you wish that they would scrape more areas of the park off. Even with the scraping of the area, most of the coins were still another 3 to 6 inches below the scraped area. Still, a very successful few days.
