I got this at a yard sale . It's 11 inches long x 6 inches wide , made mostly of 1/2 inch steel plate . It weighs 18 pounds . Any ideas what it it used for ?

Could it be the tool used to set the angle or the "set" of sawblade teeth?

Creskol might be on to something there, I looked up kerf gauges but didn't find a match. If you have a saw mill or a real (non box store) lumber yard nearby, they might be able to tell you if it's anything like that.

Well the gauge part is a dial indicator, used to measure thousandths of an inch, but for measuring what in this application I don't know. But it's generally a machinist tool, on cars I used to use them for measuring warp in brake rotors or out of roundness of machined parts.
