Got a new house recently and Found this HEAVY thing almost 10 inches down in my yard (house is turn of the century). Could it be the top of an oil lamp? Whatever it is it's old and neat and I'm pumped to have found it in my new yard. Any info or guesses appreciated. Thanks in advance. It looks a lot like a top/lid to an old beer stein.

That would be awesome! I love beer lol. Here are a few more pics after I cleaned it with a wet cloth. Like I said it's very heavy and I think it looks brass or copper but I'm not an expert at determining that stuff yet. I don't think that it is an old oil lamp. They were thin sheet brass, that looks heavy and cast.

Beer stein lid would have a hinge mounted on it's rim, and be at least 3.5" across.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of items from the past that we simply can not ID. Bu that doesn't stop us from trying.

Best of luck to you sir!

Thanks Carolina Tom. Yeah it doesn't look to have ever had a hinge and it's definitely not sheet anything as it's quite heavy for its size. I just really want to know because it's the (assumably) the oldest item I have found so far at my new house and ide love to at least get a date range.

Top to an incense burner? Old car part? I'm so lost on this one.

Not incense burner top, my first impression, because there are no holes in the top for smoke to escape. But no other idea.

I am thinking more like the base to a lamp or bowl or something

What kind of lamp or bowl? And how old do you think it is?

Probably late eighteen hundreds or early nineteen hundreds. It's impossible to say for sure though.

Early/mid 20th C. Looks like the base of grandma's candy dish...
