Totally surprised to find this button. It was between our yard and the road. There is an old dump in our yard at this same location. The man that lived across the street was a Navy man, not sure what years. This dump most likely was his. Not sure if it is related but closest I could figure it could be. 1900- 1930's or 40's. Back is iron and toasted. Any ID.

The reverse is important, is it roach out steel?

Yes the back is toast. It has been said that this is a modern blazer button. Sure looks Navy, so it is now in with my other military buttons.
 
No matter what it came off of, it's always great to get an eagle back up into the light...

Wow! Federal Navy Vest Button. Civil war period! Nice find! It was originally clad in gilt and quite beautiful.
