looks to me like the insulator off a old time sparkplug (broken at one end) * or a wire insulator of some type -- trade beads were made in large sizes however , I do not think thats one of em.

agree its a snapped ceramic insulator
ive seen them in gas and oil furnaces
the ignition spark wire would run thru it
brady
