I will say, I know nothing of the Minelabs. I have always used Whites.
I am hoping some of you will educate me. Do Minelabs have a machine that is a fast responder like a two filter machine. Most places I hunt are nasty,a few with iron but most with more modern junk, bits of aluminum, tabs, etc.
I have read a bit about the XT 70, and thought maybe, I would like its all metal mode with the different tones. But I havent ran across a thread that talks about how fast a Minelab gets off one target and onto another,Im sure there is one, I just havent found it. I would also want a smaller coil to work the trash sites, so how do the small coils measure up, depth etc.
Dunno, maybe im lookin for a magic bullet, lol. I use a M6 now for trashier sites, with a small coil. I am finding lots of wheat pennies but very little silver or nickels. I do pick up clad dimes, quarters etc in some of these areas but no silver, hey, maybe its just not there. The M6 is pretty generous with its sweep speed but I do swing it slow in these nasty areas.
Anyways, thought maybe you guys could give me a good assesment on your XT 70 or explorer.
Thanks very much,
John

Your M6 is just fine for the hunting you are doing with the smaller coil. The small coil allows you to get in between the things you are disc. against to respond on the targets you want. Silver being very conductive would make a detector sound off loud and strong even years ago when they wouldn't hold a candle to todays machines. One of the things you can do is to make sure you overlap your sweeps by at least 50% since the field goes down in roughly a cone shape. A smaller coil doesn't get as deep as a larger one and so the 50% rule still applies to sweeps.

The X70 wouldn't find your coins any faster. Having a faster responding machine also means less accurate id of targets for the disc. circuit. All Minelabs work better with a little slower sweep speed since all them frequencies need a couple nano seconds longer to work.

Heya Sandman,thanks for your response.
I do like the M6,I want get rid of it, and its so easy to use,it compliments my XL Pro very well.
I am ignorant of the other brands and thought maybe I would venture out and try something new. I didnt think the Explorers,Quatro, or Soverign were fast responders. What caught my eye was the XT 70s use of tones in the all metal mode. I wish the M6 had a threshold and all metal mode with less tones. Most of my hunts are in the target mode and sometimes Ill check a target by switching to tones.
I know you,Willy and several others that frequent this forum are knowledgeble on the latest so I thought I would go fishing, throw a post out and see what I caught.
I am thinking(where I get in trouble) that some machines and some mders just pair up well, like they were made for each other.
Again, thanks for your help,
John
