Roadshow looks for hidden treasure
Clutching dolls, coins, and guns, hopeful people waited in line for hours Tuesday afternoon at the La Quinta Inn in Rochester while trying to make some money.
What brought them there was the Treasure Hunters Roadshow, a traveling group of collectors who examine and sometimes purchase antiques, gold and other valuables. The group will be at La Quinta through Saturday.
The roadshow has met some controversy recently amid media reports of bounced checks around the country. Roadshow president Jeff Parsons said the problem has been addressed.
Seller, be wary
Tips to consider before heading to the Treasure Hunters Roadshow:
• Get an estimate of what you are selling before you go. Go to eBay, for example, and see how much similar items are selling for. Avoid getting an appraisal only from the person who is buying an item from you.
• Be wary about accepting checks. It is better to be paid in cash or by a certified form of payment.
• When selling gold, it's best to deal with a licensed jeweler.
