That is a great story. I did some searching but still have no idea if the cave was ever actually opened. Beyond that article in 1924, I can't find any mention of it anywhere. All I can find are plundered burial mounds. Oh well. I probably shouldn't fret about it. I'm not even from Wisconsin.

The Nelson Dewey State Park is located in Cassville, WI.
 

The park's name was changed to Wyalusing State Park. The Treasure Cave entrance was eventually opened and taking a tour of the cave is one of the bigger attractions of Wyalusing State Park.
