Treasure hunters please help me I.D. This

Can someone please help me i.d the ornate valve i found today. Its brass and has a cool pattern all over it. The pattern is triangles with a line under them also looks like it has three leaf clovers all over it. The square at the top is the on/off for the valve. Iam looking for how old is it and what it would be used for. I sure its nothing much but looked cool so thought i would ask the experts. Happy hunting to all and good luck on your next trip out.

Yep another gas valve. Gas piping went throuout the home with a valve at each fixture. I guess it was before electricity. They can be quite ornate. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,419544.0.html
