Hi friend. I believe from personal experience treasure hunting metal detecting is very harmful for students because it destroyed my life from school i used metal detector and never focused on study because of much absent in school and looking for treasures in ruins side i always got D grade in result before metal detecting i got first position in call and yes got some coins in detecting and sold them recovered travel costs.i wasted my important student life in treasure hunting my some class mates are now in medical MBBS some are engineering difference fields study and i am in failure now i just hate my self some time think to suicide.its my advice for young treasure hunter students who think that they will find treasure and become rich easily its just joke this are good in movies not in real life.focus on study work hard study hard if you want to become rich.sorry if my post is against this forum.but its my story

Money is not what makes you happy... this is your first mistake. Second mistake is the envy of others lives in comparison to your own. You are still capable of getting that degree if you want, I know people 40 years old going to school. Yes detecting likely won't make you rich, but how much have you gained in life experience and learning of history because of it? how much exercise and outdoor time did you get? try and look at it from a different point of view. Not that you got left behind as a failure, rather look at it as you took a different path in life and try to look at the positives. Keep moving forward, and keep that head up!

seek help , you have a serious problem and suicide is NOT the answer....

Never too late to amount to something. People have obtained law degrees in their sixties. I see your point but wonder where your parents were in this matter.
Regret won't fix anything.

University rejected my admission because of low marks and and the second is yes i learned much about of history but that is useless and yes money is not what used to make you happy but you need money to live and i used to sold coins which i found with detector but after losing my metal dectector. i go with another person he have metal detector. he detects and and i digs all day and get very tired and get 400 pkr (about 3 usd) for all day digging and in winter i am happy with that money and work but in summer i get crazy .

If it hadn't been metal detecting it would have been sports, butterfly collecting or reading graphic novels. Bored is bored.

You needed someone to lock up the detector until you got your grades up. My Dad used to make me sit in front of him and do my homework if my grades were slipping. If I had ever skipped school to do something by myself he would have skinned my hide (that is: beat me physically - and I know this because I did "run away" for a day once).

Wait, you are blaming metal detecting for your failure in life? I have no idea who you are, but I'm willing to bet the house that "metal detecting" is WAY down on the list of reasons you're a self-titled loser. Lack of focus; greed; stupidity; and suicide, are personality traits, not causal effects of metal detecting. You are "whining." Man up!

metal detecting is a great hobby , if you thought you'd strike it rich and never need a job skill you are sadly mistaken.
so climb out of the hole you've been digging and get a job with advancement opportunities.
and for the suicide thoughts , you need to see a doctor for treatment .

personally I find metal detecting very therapeutic for depression , it's got me through some very dark times in my life. again , please talk to your Doctor.

What DROVE you to neglect your best interests and metal detect instead of studying? Was giving into that a SMART decision?

Yes terry metal detecting instead of study was my big mistake .my father was admitted me in best school of all area but i never focused on study after started metal detecting before that i was best student in call and my metal detecting was different i spent all days for long times and Buddhist indogreek and kushan ruins sides for looking into treasure i climbed to large high mountains where were there monasteries i thought there priest me be hidden treasure but i found nothing

That was your big mistake those folks had nothing but a vow of poverty.. Trade routes, stopping places might yield some goods.....

I searched there every ruins

My parents brought me up to do homework first, and play second. I was the student who got home from school on Friday night and wiped out the homework so I could have fun the rest of the weekend. I was the one who also raised his hand in speech class, to go up in front of the class and get my speech over with first, so I could watch the rest of the students do theirs. Am I a rocket scientist ? No way, far from it, but it did build great values and priorities. I will still come home from work, do my chores, cut the grass, etc. so on Sunday I'm ready to go detecting. Just my opinion, but I think your making excuses.

Anything in excess can be harmful to students and adults alike.

Instead of continuing down the same path that lead you to the point you're now at, why not change the way you approach life?

Learn from the success of your fellow classmates. Their journey wasn't one that consisted of nothing but sunshine and joy; they worked to get to the point that they're at. Look to those former classmates for inspiration; copy their actions, their habits, their sacrifices. If they can do it, so can you. You might have to work a bit harder than you think they did, but it's a sure bet that they worked harder than many would think.

It all boils down to how much you want it, and how much you're willing to do (work, sacrifices, etc..) to get it.

There's a quote from the movie 'Troy' - (yes, I know it is just a movie but the statement sums life up quite well) - "I want what all men want: I just want it more."

The fact is that most really successful people worked extremely hard to get where they are in life. They gave up things that most people won't. They made sacrifices that most people won't. They took risks that most people won't. They learned from their mistakes, and made adjustments because of those mistakes. They also reached a level of success that most people won't.

If you're at the end of the road, you got there because of the decisions you made (metal detecting wasn't the reason). Only you are preventing yourself from changing directions, trying a different route, or changing the destination completely. Anything and everything that stands in your way can be circumvented if you decide you want success more than you want excuses.

I wish you luck and much success.

It's up to you.

Great lessons by respected friends.thanks

Taking responsibility for your actions is one thing...

Chalk up your experiences with detecting as just that... an experience... IF you felt it was a waste of time... then waste no more... move on.

Simple as that.

Getting a metal detector with hopes of getting rich...

Is like going to the casino thinking your going to make a living winning money.

I think the real tragedy here is that you were using an ACE 150 :laughing7:
