What did you pay for the 8 reale? You might have come out pretty good because the 1776 date gets a premium price compared to other 8 reales in equal condition because people like that date.

Awesome auction finds. I think you did very, very well.

Potosi (Bolivia)
(1574-1825)
Mintmark-P or later a monogram PTSI which looks similar to a dollar sign ($). The mint opened after the pillar type cob period, thus it is the only coin type not to see production. Shield type cob - (1574-1652), pillars and waves type cob - (1652-1773), milled pillar - (1767-1770), and milled bust - (1773-1825).

Think that is what it is, the assayers P R match for "joint assayers".

Don

tI snagged the coin for 30 bucks- IVe just wanted one for ages I thought that the date was awesome they had a 1797 in good shape but i didnt want that one as much

Thats great that it is a coin that was minted in the south americas
If that coin could only talk the stories it would tell.....
Thanks alot for the info

Yep, that's a decent deal for sure.

Now with little cash in my pocket I will continue my quest for early american coins & relics. (and a chest of gold) :laughing7:

Why would the bonehead take a drill to a goldpiece ??? :tongue3:

It was i good shape to before it was drilled what the hell?

James, I know they would mean more to you if you dug them but you didn't get cold, wet, or dirty to find them-unless you fell down in the parking lot-LOL. They are some really nice coins. Watch out for the $1 gold-bunch of fakes out there. HH.

yep ive seen some of those fakes before

Holes were drilled to attach coin inside of clothes. Pockets are a relatively new invention. Effective ones, anyway.

nice coins, what did the gold go for?

40 clams for the holed gold

ya done did good! 30 bucks ya stole that colonial 8 reales

Ice cap yes just can wait till Spring. Nice loot to boot i like that Reale 1776 :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

I have always liked those early commemorative halves best.

Thanks everyone
On another note the auction felt more like an AARP convention
I was the only one there that didnt have grey hair :laughing7:
