I was out shopping for plant material last week and went to my friends ground cover nursery...Wayne is the owner and I always share my MD'ing stories with him. So we got to talking and I asked him how long his family had owned this 5+/- acres of land in Gardena. He says my dad bought it from a chicken farmer in the 40's. A little light went off in my head..:) There had been a retail business on this land for over 60 years. He started to show me where the old house and barn used to be and that was it! I asked if I could hunt around the property and he said no problem. I dusted off my DFX and did a land hunt. Spent about an hour there and found these two Silver Coins. Most of my hunting is done on the beach... I've only found two silver Mercs in the sand. I'm always envious of Silver Coins found by other members. Glad I tried something different.

Good Luck All 007.webp009.webp010.webp

I think the general perception by the non-metal detecting public is that there are lots and lots of old coins and artifacts left by people everywhere. It really is amazing how little worthwhile stuff there is in the ground. I mean after 60+ Years of retail activity, by all accounts there should be dozens and dozens of silver coins everywhere.
I travel quite a bit and I can tell you that California a lot better than most other places too

Verrrrrrrrrrrrry nice silver finds, wildcarrot!:headbang:
