My Bounty Hunter is practically NIB - and so I am not very aggressive about moving away from home turf. Today, I scouted a playground - too many kids - not ready to answer all the questions, and not sure it is allowed there. (Tomorrow I will call and find out)........

BUT - I took the BH to my son and DILs and actually FOUND something! It was a broken sprinkler head!!!!!!!!!!! ::) Before you think I am sad, understand that this is the first "sounding" that resulted in FINDING something!!!!

Tomorrow will be better, if the good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise! :'(

I can't thank each and everyone of you enough for making me feel welcome AND for validating my tentative steps whilst give me so many helpful hints! I can see the value in getting headphones which I will do soon.

In the meantime, this web site provides so MUCH vicarious pleasure. Your stories truly getting the juices flowing! I am overwhelmed w/ the amount of traffic on this site - that is SO good!!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday!!!!!!

:-*

Was the sprinkler head broken because you pried it out of the ground.....like I almost did my first time out? ;D ;D I really almost did before I realized what I was trying to dig up! Monty

The sprinkler head had been murdered by a lawnmower, but until I came along, the body had not been discovered.

Monty - just read your post about Seattle beach - you ARE a long way from home.

Today I lost my virginity - not over anything too marvelous - but a couple steps up from a sprinkler head!!!!!!!

Made the calls, sent some emails, clearing the trail on getting permission.

Got brave and went BACK to the park I only looked at yesterday.

I played around in the grass - letting the BH tell me what I could see - pull tabs - bottle tops - aluminum foil and such. I wasn't going to dig holes in the park (at least not yet - not today).

I went over by the playground equipment - where one section had wood chips and I found my first DIME!!!! That is SO much fun!!!! I then moved to a region covered w/ pea gravel and found my first PENNY!!!!!!!! Yahoooo. No oldies there, but I know they will come. Today I have made progress ......and tomorrow I will make more!

Funny how that works, isn't it?
A penny or dime carried around in your pocket or purse, is just a penny or dime.
But when you detect and dig them up. Their no longer just a penny or dime.
Their Treasure !!!!
It's the same feeling that all of us here share and never tire of.
So welcome aboard and you'll always have friends here that can relate. HH

With each step comes more confidence and more quest for knowledge. Best of luck and HH!

"baby steps".

baby steps to the park,
baby steps to the beach,
baby steps to the bank.

The albatros CAN fly, but it does take some work! Welcome!

Another hour + under my belt - a few more coins of insignificant value except to ME! I even brought home my first beer bottle cap - only because it was something I dug!

NOW - the questions are beginning to accumulate - and I am not able to locate a newbie Q&A forum here - does such exist? The questions would be about my BH detector.

Thanks for continued help and support!

I have the Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 and am very happy with it so far. It came with a 4" coil that makes it easier to use in trashy park locations. I still have trouble pinpointing with the 8" coil, so the smaller coil is a plus when digging in the parks since I can dig a much smaller diameter hole. On the down side, it takes much longer to cover large areas and I'm not sure I am getting the depth that the larger coil gives me.

Well, welcome aboard, Wanna! We always enjoy hearing from Newbies like yourself; reminding us of the good old days when we felt excitement over every coin and broken sunglass arm we'd pull out of the ground... I've been enjoying this hobby for almost 2 years now and you'd be amazed at how much bolder I am now compared to my first days swinging a coil. That doesn't mean I'm disrespectful of clearly marked "no tresspassing" signs, but it does mean that I'm much more comfortable exploring the earth (often alone) and discovering the treasures she's been holding until I got there! Just keep at it - and after you've walked a few miles with your neck bent toward the earth and your arm muscles aching from the repetitive swinging motion you may soon realize that, like many of us, there's nothing else you'd rather be doing in your free time. In the meantime, enjoy finding the bottle caps and the pull tabs; it's how you learn! ;)
