Well, my auction for $100 Face in 40% just ended for $886 on Feebay. Even after their fees (which have sure gone up in the 11 years since I first got on Ebay -- I remember when Ebay was a great deal...), but I digress. I will still clear about $825 or about $4.10 each. Not bad for a fifty cent each investment.

And, my Dad has decided to unload some of his Gold so he sold me a 1/2 ounce Proof Eagle and a 1/10 BU Eagle for just a tiny bit over melt. My 40% profits plus a little bit of pocket change and I've got some more Gold. I like turning my 40% into Gold and now I've got over 2 ounces of Gold with this little plan. I keep all my 90% forever!!!

Still have some 40% to convert, and trying to convince my wife into letting me get a St Gaudin Double Eagle -- already got the $2.5, $5, and $10 from the same era. That will take quite a bit of 40%! Will have to hit it hard to get that one...

I think you did well. Gold will continue to go up!

what would you say your total fees percent wise were to sell? Other people claim its around 12-16% when they add ebay fees to paypal.

Congratulations on the conversation, I think $4.10 was a fair rate to cash-out at.
I'm with Rileyboy, switching your 40% halves to gold is a good call. I'm inclined to do the same thing and need to start thinking about how to best go about it.
Let us know when you make the trade for the Saint-Gaudens double eagle, those are beauties!

To answer the Fee question, Ebay charges a 9% final value fee, but it's capped at $50 so since my auction ended at $886 (plus shipping) my fee was $50 which percentage wise is 5.6% for Ebay and Paypal charges 2.9%. The fees are worse percentage wise for smaller auctions. The one good thing about the Ebay fee structure now is that you don't pay insertion fees anymore... I still think their fees have gotten pretty high, but it is convenient. I do the one day auctions. Post an add and the next day the money is in my account...

Oh well, it is better than any of the coin shops or pawn shops are paying around here...

I've thought about trying Craig's List, but have only used that to buy stuff in the past. Might give them a shot one of these days. Would probably be cheaper.

What do you guys think of turning 40%s into Silver Morgan or Peace Dollars?

I thought that the $20.00 dollar gold piece was the "Double Eagle" and the St. Gaudins was just that, a Saint Gaudens. You are missing the $20.00 gold Piece (Double Eagle) from your set if they are all liberty heads. There are also Indian Head version's of each.

**Edited**
I stand corrected, the St. Gaudins is also a $20.00 dollar gold piece and goes by "Double Eagle".
