What do you think? It is turquoise right? What's the brown matrix?

It's a carved bear...

Not sure what the brown would be either as that depends on the host rock. The green is malachite a close relative to the blue in your figurine which is turquoise. Copper minerals and the malachite looks like its gem grade so would cut well if you want to make another figurine.

The first photo is showing the bottom of the bear. It is kind of a darker greenish blue compared to a pale blue turquoise. The flash throws off the color somewhat.

Fair enough diggummup. :) Blue is the defining coloration for turquoise and blue/greens often fall into that category. Heat treatment can enhance it somewhat but that's usually reserved for hardening low grade turquoise. Still nice stuff there.

Turquoise comes in a number of colors to include green, yellow, white, blue, and brown. Great green turquoise comes from Nevada; I have a very nice ring made from green Nevada turquoise.

Have a great day.

Being a Silversmith for over 40 years and working with a lot of turquoise samples from fetishes to cabs, I would say it’s definitely turquoise.

Fair enough. Thanks everyone. I picked it up when I bought this necklace from a lady at a flea market a few weeks back.
