Found this fossil in a coal mining town outside Bluefield, VA. To me it resembles a turtle head.

Is it just petrified wood or nothing at all? What's your thoughts?

Appears to me to be an ironstone (limonite?) concretion. Not a fossil.

Yeah, I'd agree with Harry that it's some sort of concretion. The siderite nodules in E.KY come in all kinds of unusual shapes and sizes.
