The second one does "look" like pottery but I believe it is rock. Usually, you can see sand, tiny gravels, shell etc. inside the broken edges of pottery.

Sides of the one you think might be pottery has no signs on the sides of being pottery.

Rough material is a tough call even washed. I see you havent washed them. I do believe both pieces are natural the one that looks like a flake removed to me is a natural flaking of shale which will flake by itself. I do find rough materials sometimes even though I dont post them often. Most can not relate to the rough rock unless you have handled it.
