I found this stuff today. I know the decorative piece is the keyhole cover from a M&W lock. I also know the "P" button dates from 1883-1911. It has a "Chas Rubens & Co Chic" backmark. There also appears to be some silver gilt left on the back. Can anyone tell me anything more about it as well as the small button. There is no backmark on it. Might be an iron back as it is corroded but I can feel the shank.

The "P" button is an old police button.

Thanks Dirty. That makes a fireman's badge and policeman's button for my collection, both from the same field. Now, what else do I need to find there?
Any idea on the age of the keyhole cover?

Those dates fit the period that this site was inhabited. Thanks and a green check coming up.

I know this is already solved but heres an exact artist sketch of your padlock keyhole cover from one of my books. There must be a lot of padlocks out there missing the covers.

Thanks for the post BCH. That was a pretty fancy lock. Does the book give an age on it?
