TWO Civil War Plate day!! NOT an Aprils' Fools Joke! ;-)

I went back out to the spot where MonkeyBoy Jr and I dug the bullets and Cartridge box plate the other day. I circled out from that location for a while then decided to head up the mountain a little bit more. Within another 100' feet or so I hit a huge signal!!! Turned out to be 16 Sharps bullets in one hole!!! I slowed down and started really hitting the area hard.. dug a few more bullets then a great Eagle Plate popped out of the ground!! Long story short.. in an area that was about 150"around... I dug TWO eagle plates, 10 buttons.. and a ton of bullets!!! That brings the total to 3 plates from the same spot in less then 24 hours!! I left with still more signals, wanted to take MonkeyBoy Jr backup there.. so hopefully he gets his second plate!!! I did get a single coin, a 1857 Half Dime.. the deepest relic was still only 6"or so!!

Great finds, you live just across the river from me and I am glad someone is finding some good things in the area. Seems like you will have a great spot. Good luck with future hunts.

With Florida's 50 year rule if you find a 1960 penny who have to mail it to the crooks in govt.

In Maryland what are the laws regarding finding civil war artifacts on public land?

This is awesome! We live pretty close. Maybe one day we can get out and dig. Congrats to you and your son on some awesome finds. That spot looks hot with relics.

In Maryland if its public land you need permission. I hunt City and County parks and because the rules dont say anything about no detecting or ground disturbing, I still call the head of parks and recreation to get permission. Whatever you find in Maryland is yours. I hope new laws are not created. I think Florida just sees a way to make money from old Spanish Coins. I think Virginia you need written permission to detect any property (but I am not 100% sure).

Unbelievable! I was sure this was an April's fools joke at first. Well hopefully you saved me something. Maybe an ID disk is just lurking behind that next rock. Two plate day is a BANNER find for any Civil War relic hunter!

The 50 year rule applies to navigable waterways. Anything found with permission on private property can be kept by the finder regardless of its age. No hunting is allowed on state (and most county) historic sites. No hunting is allowed on federal property. I read where there are some exceptions to the national archeaolgy act that included coins and bullets, but I think that would apply to finds from non-historic areas.

When I have the time .. .I'll post the entire story... this is part of series of spots that have produced 5 buckles, tons of bullets, buttons.. coins and a Virginia Button and Cape Pin!!!

That is an incredible day. I've only had one multiple buckle day, and it made the banner here. Two years ago, I dug a sword belt plate and keeper, an eagle breast plate, and my buddy dug an unmarked breastplate.


That is a great spot. Good luck to you and Monkey Jr. for the return trip.
