Now this one is hard to believe, even for me (and it happened to me!).
Finishing off a mediocre hunt the evening of the 5th ... (my scouting at noon showed many many beach goers) I was trudging along back to the parking lot and wondering if I should turn my machine off. I was thinking, what are the odds of finding a ring at the last 100 feet of the hunt. Just then got a quarter signal (85)...and a quarter in my scoop. Well OK..I'll keep it on.
THEN... the last swing before the parking lot I get a foil signal. 99.5% of the time it really is foil and I usually kick the spot to the side and the foil is exposed. This time 'something' moved but it was heavier than foil. Just before picking it up with my scoop a thin gold edge was visible! YIKES. I scoop it up and it's a 14k gold ring! happydance.gif YES! No trudging back to the car I literally bounced all the way!
Not done yet... Wait: we scout out the action at the beach the next noon and it looks GOOD. So I arrive at the beach 6:30 PM but no parking available close up. I take a farther away spot and decide to start the hunt from the blanket line there. First swing ..a foil signal. I scrape at it and the signal didn't move away. KI pick up the first scoop full and it's deeper... second scoop gets it. A RING... 10K with a single diamond!
The last swing from the day before got me a 14K and the first swing this day got me a 10K. WOW. Pretty anticlimactic after that...but I kept trying...for a third one ... but only clad.
Well anyways ... got 30 rings in my 36 ring case (photo available upon request)...I'm happy.
