I was checking my dates looking for silver on my 17th quarter when I thought I had a silver Canadian. It looked like it was silver because it was tarnished up just like the silvers I have found so far in the lake. Probably not much for most people, but it was exciting finding it in with my clad. 1982 25 Cent, I looked it up, made of nickel.
Enjoy the pix

did you check it with a magnet? oh yours is a 1982, mine is a 68 and they were both silver and nickle that year, only a magnet will tell them apart. still cool to find the unexpected.

Yeah looter,I thought it was silver at first, thought I found my first silver Canadian until I looked it up.I was wondering why the tarnish came off so easy

yeah, disappointing for sure. I didn't think mine would actually be silver... my mine was thinking older than 64 and then I realized I was thinking USA. still a cool coin.

My first silver eve was an 1887 Canadians 25 center. Your next one will be 100 years older bud. You ever work anymore :-)

No, I'm retired in charge of hunting and fishing lands worldwide!

Nice find my man. Sorry it changed from silver to nickel. It is a common occurence around here... I routinely dig silver coins, hands full of them, but by the time I get them home they have turned into clad. Darndest thing...

GL&HH! You old "treasure machine".

Canada stopped making silver coins in 1968 some 1968 examples are clad and some are 50% silver. 1967 and prior are 80% silver, if you go even farther back to the 1800's. You can get coins that are 92.5% silver like early fish scales. (A fish scale is a Canadian half dime) I collected Canadian coins for awhile. :headbang: Facts could be a little wrong, but I think I'm right... :icon_scratch:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Tom, reminds me of when I put that big fish in the cooler and later look and find out he shrank.
thanks mud, I'm going back as soon as I'm done helping out my son

Yeah, me too Q. I also found this in March when my mom past. I was out in her garden looking for some of her old stuff when I found this.
