the first is a coup stick with a image of a badger? and a papoose in a cradle board with it's hands sticking out and a feather in the head
second is a crane(?) effigy complete with handle
in 25 years i know of only 6 or 7 of these being found on this site with this being the only one i know of that is unbroken

Those are super artifacts,,,I always enjoy your posts..I'm glad we talked...Michael

Those are really some great artifacts, The bone pieces are great the bird head is really a nice piece. Fantastic finds Steve. :hello2::headbang::hello:

the use of the bird piece could possibly be a porcupine quill processing tool

Steve, I am always amazed at how well the bone artifact's are preserved in your area. You must have some real good soil condition's.

Beautiful! These are going to my photos on computer for keeping! :)

Those are absolutely stunning Steve. Great finds man. So nice to see them whole!!!.....................................GTP(Chris)

Those are my two favorite pieces that I have seen from your collection Steve. Two very unique and priceless artifacts. Thanks for showing them again.

thanks
do you think every one looking at the stick can see the baby with its hands in the air and the feather in its hair?
i still think the animal is a badger...i used to think turtle...but not too mu any more...???
about the birds head..it could be a piece of a medicine mans kit...but the only polish on these is on the sides of the bill which is why it has been thought of being a quill flattener
i some times think of three or four people sitting in a circle making quill work...with each person having their own tool and being mighty proud of it..and comparing it's beauty to the others...??

Those are KILLER. The "Garfield Goose" looking thing is pretty wild, what was it used for?

What a simple life back then...so few possessions yet so proud of what they had. We all have houses full of junk now. Kinda weird that for some of us, those very artifacts they had and were so proud to own are now what we are most proud to own?

scotto that makes very good sense.....also you asked what would that birds head used for?.....
.....it has been said that they were porcupine quill processors.....that is "quill flatteners" getting ready for inlaid quill work...and you are
right....the simplest things back then are highly regarded now
