🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Two What's Its

Both found at a home with some late 1700 finds (cut Spanish Real and a cuff/button link) up to modern day. Also found my first ever Civil War button there which was a surprise.
The long thing turned green is very heavy. It's on the tip of my tongue of what it could be...
The other piece has someone's initial and maybe last name etched on the back? Hard to read what it is for sure. Is it part of a latch or ?? Google likes to tell me everything is a Roman artifact....

Not too sure about the first object. Looks to be made of brass or bronze, which is why it's heavy.
The second object looks like a gate latch. Maybe hand forged with the makers name in it?

Looks like a pistol barrel.
And a latch of sorts.

Yours does not appear to be a screw barrel though. So this is probably closer to yours.
And the nipple might be centered as opposed to needing a drum to attach to the barrel.
IF a nipple , the piece could likely post date flintlocks.

Thank you for this. I kept thinking it looked like a gun barrel but couldn't find a match with the tip like that. I know nothing about guns but this gives me something to research!

Brass barrels muzzles kind of followed cannon barrel designs. A reinforcing concept.
They changed through eras, and just plain designs.

They changed through eras, and just plain designs.

Here is an example of a flintlock version, which is what I think Heather may have. It looks like there is a power pan rather than a percussion nipple.

now I'm down the rabbit hole chasing "muff: pistols.

Mainly to look for upside down tangs attached to rear of breech that curve downward.
I'm used to seeing tangs on top. And more near where a thumb might rest behind a hammer.
