U.S. and Canadian large cents.

I went back to the farm fields today. I found a 1848 large cent with three holes in it. Possibly used for a button or a wizzer. Also found a 1859 Canadian large cent, three buttons, toe tap, bale seal,etc.

A few Canadian large cents were produced in late 1858 but the first full year of production was 1859. There are several varieties, including some with the 1858 date overstamped with 1859. Some of the varieties are quite valuable to collectors if they are in good condition. It looks like yours has a piece snipped out of its edge, which likely would reduce or eliminate any collector interest. Still, it has nice historical value.
I've found only one 1859, in a flowing river sand and gravel bar. It has a coating of corrosion which still allows enough detail to barely see Queen Victoria's bust on the obverse and the date on the reverse. It also shows the effects of scouring from being in the river for likely over 100 years. I'm happy to have it even though its condition makes it monetarily valueless.

It was hit by the plow it has a Crack across it. I found one about 20 years ago the back was smooth and someone stamped Charles Flint may 15 1875 Colts Armory Hartford C.T.
