Wow, it's really cool that you found that coin 'across the pond'. Nice find!

1926 - S, (San Francisco mint), you can see the mint mark over the tail feathers of the eagle on the reverse. Seems to be in pretty decent shape. Might be worth about $25+ dollars US. You have to enjoy the weight of one of those in your hand!

Here's a quick link to Wikipedia for you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Dollar

What's the story Ed.........how and where did you find it ???

I bet there are a lot of American coins around the old Airbases and Army Bases . But the coin you found looks in great shape !

Nice find !

spent an half an hour detecting an old wood next to the house i was working in this was the last signal i had as i walked out to go back to work

After finding that I'd sure go back there to look for more!

Yes, it is a Peace dollar and is 90% silver. The S does indeed stand for the San Fransisco mint and the little mark is Anthony de Francisci's initials, he was the designer of the coin.

Great Job !! :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

Very nice find... like the others stated, they are not plentiful in the U.S. as far as turning up while metal detecting!!
I have not found one in 5 years of detecting, although I have seen posts by other detectorists making these finds.
