unable to ID a military style medal

found this in the bottom of free box of stuff from a yard sale -- tried a military collectors forum without luck

It doesn't appear to have the quality or fineness you'd expect from a military medal.

I'm guessing this is just a generic medal given by some organization as an award. Lion-heart recognition for service above and beyond... That sort of thing...

I searched for a while but didn't see any similar.

Anything on the back?

I looked at a lot of medals and tried all the keywords but came up blank. I agree with DCMatt that is probably generic medal.

I would think it's a school medal or something like that, but it's hard to say.... Interestingly the ribbon is very similar to the ribbon for the Dewey Medal which was only awarded to those who took part in the Battle of Manila Bay.
