Unbelievably shiny day at the casino...

Ok... I will preface this by saying that my sweetie and I spent a full ten hours at the casino tonight and must have searched through about $1500-$2000 apiece. So keep that in mind... it was darn close to being work at the end of the night.

BUT BOY DID IT PAY OFF.

8 Walkers (2 really nice cond.)

But the highlight was when I saw the look on her face when she found the coin of the night- a 1976 SILVER PROOF that still has a mirror finish to it. Little bit of yellowing, but WHO CARES!

Not only that, but we found our first proof- a 2001 S in pretty awesome condition. Don't think it is the silver one.



I am always grateful for silver, but we never find the unusual ones like that. I could not have been more thrilled

I was convinced to trust my circa 1975 triple beam scale. And if you have one, it works really well.

90% silver halves are going to come in at 12.5 grams, 40% at 11.5 grams and cupro-nickel halves at 11.34 grams.

Takes all the guess work out of "is it" or "isn't it".

Professor Kennsington would be so proud of me.

I have a theory... The first few months that I did this, I found ONE walking liberty. Until a few weeks ago, that was it. But when I did find some, they came in a huge rush (actually, when my sweetie found them). Most of them from the same bucket.

I think that it is as simple as people dropping a coin in the machine from some relative's collection. After all, they are gamblers, and some will do some irrational things. My guess is that the 1976 and 2001 were dropped in, emptied from the machine, and sat in the rolls until I opened them. Same thing with the walkers.

As for my system, I will say that all casinos are different. Some will give out coins, some won't, so my system will probably not work exactly for you. And if you happen to be searching the same casino as me, I would do well not to tell you what works best there. I may have said too much already.

Keep in mind, we were there for a long time to get these results. 138 coins, 2 people, 10 hours= less than 7 coins per hour. Most 40%ers. Rarely walkers. It is probably not worth your time. 8)
