Unidentified Floor Object🤣

Howdy folks. I was investigating on the side of a hill that has a very old house that was built in the mid 1700’s. I still haven’t contacted the owner for permission but on the side is public land and you can see old pottery, bricks, glass and all the good signs of an awesome spot for metal detecting. So I just gave a quick swing and the very first signal out pops this lead object. Solid and very heavy. Can someone please explain or say whta could this be? Ive never seen anything like it.

Kind of looks like a spool of some sorts. Counterweight for something is possible.

Another thought is a master foundry mold.
This would be used to be pressed into damp sand, to make a pattern.Then the molten iron, brass would be poured in.

That is a reasonable guess. Something that is easily melted down and reused for another job. However, what would it be if it was casted out of iron?

Foundry workers would press this lead pattern directly into packed casting sand to create the hollow cavity template needed to later pour molten iron.

Maybe I wasn’t clear. What would the purpose of the final product be given your theory?

Definitely has the look of a spindle whorl. They were made from all types of materials. My daughter found a stone one in Portugal at a Roman site. Lead would make sense for colonial America I would say.
